Artist Biography
Ruth Mercier, artist, flower painter, was born in Switzerland of French parentage, studied and worked in Paris, and exhibited in France and England, c.1882-1915. talent. Ruth painted urban landscapes and flowers.
She exhibited her work from 1882-1915, receiving an honourable mention at the Salon des Artistes in 1885, and at the Exposition Universal a bronze medal in 1900.Exhibited in Great Britain at the London and Scottish Royal Academies. 52 works were also exhibited at the Walker Art Gallery.
Ruth became part of the artistic world that led a charmed existence in Provence at the end of the 19th century. She is known to have been very well connected with the British aristocracy who enjoyed Cannes at that time. She lived in Cannes in 1882, Paris in 1902 and London in 1905.
A fabulous still life by a rare artist, reflecting the vibrant colours and light of the Côte d’Azur. Painted in Cannes in 1890.
