Alfred Bennett was a landscape painter and etcher. He worked in watercolour and oil. Lived in London and later in Thornton Heath in Surrey and from 1916 at Knebworth, Hertfordshire. Bennett exhibited extensively 1861-1923, regularly contributing work to the Royal Watercolour Society (17) and British Institution (2).
A painting titled The Hill Farm was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1916. He held successful solo and joint shows at the Walkers Gallery in New Bond Street, London in 1918 and 1923. He also exhibited works at the Fine Art Society, New English Art Club, Grosvenor Gallery, International Society, and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters.
Many of Bennetts works are found in public art collections, including two watercolours in the collection of Brighton Museum & Art Gallery. He produced several views in West Sussex in a very distinctive and brightly coloured style.
