Artist Biography
John Frederick Herring junior was a sporting and animal painter. Son and imitator of J.F. Herring senior, one of the finest horse painters in history.
Herring Jnr is said to have quarrelled with his father, and although a competent artist, he devoted his career to copying his father’s work, particularly farmyard scenes. As both painters used the same name & initials, their work is often confused.
Herring Jnr exhibited mainly at The Society of British Artists in Suffolk Street and also at the Royal Academy and the British Institute. His works were widely engraved. Herring Jnr is courser in style to his father’s.
