Artist Biography
Charles Sillem Lidderdale was London genre painter. Exhibited at the Royal Academy and Suffolk Street, 1851-93. Subjects mostly single figures in landscapes, especially pretty rural girls.
Gallery note: We have handled many works by this artist and this charming portrait is Liddesdale’s genre at his very best. Beautifully capturing the girl walking along he lane, as she looks over her shoulder towards the artist. Preserved under glass until recently acquired by Thomas Fine Art and in very fine untouched condition.
