Artist Biography

Emile Boyer was a painter and sculptor, best known for his Parisian street scenes. He was from an impoverished family and from childhood designed embroidery patterns. Later worked as a printer before injuring his arm. He then sold chips in Place de Tertre in Montemarte where he met Utrillo and Modigliani and began to paint.

Boyer was invited to exhibit at the Salon d’Automme and Salon des Tuilleries. His drawing style is
basic and his colour built up ,and painted in a ‘naïve’ style which became fashionable. The art collector Paul Guillaume and art dealer Wilhelme Uhde, a specialist in the work of naïve artists purchased some of his paintings.
