Fedor Shapaev was a leading Moscow region realist painter during the 1950s-60s. Born in the Saratov region of the Soviet Union on the Volga River in 1927.He studied at the Ivanovo Art College from 1944, and at the Surikov Institute in Moscow from 1949-55. He was active in Orudevo, near Dmitrov (Moscow region) and exhibited from 1955. Important shows include ‘Soviet Russia’, Moscow, 1960. A major exhibition of portraits by Fedor Shapaev were shown at State Tretyakov Gallery of Contemporary and Modern Art, Moscow in January 2016. Bibl.
