Born in The Hague and went to England and worked in London at the end of the 17th century. He painted mostly seascapes in the manner of William van de Velde. Strickland’s Dictionary of Irish Artists claims that he moved from London to Dublin at the end of his life. Hagen’s work is so modelled on van de Veld’s that one wonders if he was not working in the latter’s studio. Works represented: The National Maritime Museum, Greenwich has 3 examples. Bibl: Dictionary of Sea Painters-E.H.H. Archibald.
