Biography

Oil on canvas: 19x27 in. (Frame: 28x 356in.) Signed. Ca. 1890’s

Henri Bonis was a painter of historical subjects, genre scenes, portraits and landscapes.

Henri Bonis originated from Toulouse and studied art in Paris, where he sent portraits to the Salon from 1893. He worked closely with fellow Toulousain -Henri Martin and collaborated with the neo-impressionist painter on the 'Salon d'Introduction' at the Hotel de Ville de Paris.

This charming genre picture clearly shows the influence of Henry Martin and the neo-impressionists through  pointillism technique applied to the distant hills and sky.
