This magnificent pair of paintings would have been especially commissioned for a villa in Madrid or Northern Spain, as decorative panels either side of an important entrance. The talented artist was clearly inspired by the pre-eminent Spanish Baroque painter of flower pieces in 17c Spain -Juan De-Arellano, and the fine examples of Flemish and Italian flower paintings in Madrid (Jan Brugel the Elder, and Mario Nuzzi).
